Highland Lynx History And Information

The breeds of cats we work with are chosen to be in our programs because of their overall confirmation and their personalities.  We strive to have cats that are dog like with loving devoted personalities that include fun loving playing with their humans.  We hope to change the perceptions that cats are not as good of companions as dogs.  We love dogs too but cats seem to fit many peoples live styles better than a dog.

We take our cats out with us on hikes and family outings.  We have been know to take them bass fishing with us and they love to travel and be a part of our lives.  We harness train them so that they can go out onw alks just like people walk dogs.  We hope you will consider doing this too if you get one of our cats.

The Highland Lynx breed of cat is a wonderful combination of qualities that allows the domestic cat lovers to have a cat that looks like it is a wild cat. You will read much about the origins of this breed and the claims of wild blood can not be proven but non the less the breed is a wonderful pet for many types of families and pet lovers that seek the look of the wild big cat.

The origin is unknown and you will read on many sites about it being a cross between a Desert Lynx, which is a bobcat hybrid and the second breed is the Jungle Curl, which is an African Jungle Cat Hybrid that has curled ears.

The result no matter what the beginnings are is a well muscled heavy cat that moves and looks like a cat from the wild. Their body is bobcat like and when you pick this breed of cat up you know you are picking up a cat. They feel firm and heavy and you can feel the muscles and wonder beneath your fingers!

This cat is a wonderful addition to a family and we should know!!! We have kids of all ages and grandchildren and we know for a fact that the cats get along well with all ages and also all kinds of other pets. Just because they look wild does not mean that are not tame.

The Highland Lynx is a large, friendly cat who is, in most cases, a wonderful family cat. The Highland Lynx, while quite tame looks "wild", a quality that many find appealing. These are very active cats and not the type to sleep all day. They will engage with you and want to be a part of what ever it is that you are doing. They are affectionate with their people and other pets. They do take a little longer to adjust to new surroundings that some breeds to you do have to be patient when bringing one into your home. They usually take about a week longer than a normal domestic cat to adjust to your home.

The Highland Lynx is a large cat. The males are around 17 to 20 pounds, but the females are smaller and are usually only ten or eleven pounds. The breed can have long or short fur and comes if a wild varied coat colors.

There are three main different color patterns, which include tawny, leopard, and marble. The leopard pattern is considered to be a spotted tabby. The spots are of a darker color and are usually on the sides of the body or on the belly of the cat. This is often considered a camouflage pattern that resembles that of a wild bobcat. Additionally, there is often a dorsal stripe that runs the length of the cat. The second type of pattern is the tawny coloring, also called a ticked tabby pattern. This pattern includes ticking on the body hair. The third pattern is the marble coloring, which is simply the "wild" version of the classic tabby coloring. However, there are differences, such as a reduction in the "bulls eye". Simply put, this coloring should be "marbled".

The legs of the Highland Lynx are fairly muscular, with the back legs being slightly longer than the front, often with tufted toes. The head is fairly large and square with large, intelligent eyes that can be found in shades of gold to green and occasionally blue eyes are seen. The blue eyes are found in the snow leopard coloring and are very popular. The minks have aqua colored eyes and you will not forget those eyes once you see them.

Timberline Cattery was responsible for the development of the Highland Lynx about 10 years ago and since then the breed has become well known today.
